The US National Renewable Energy Laboratory's Regional Energy Development System energy system model was utilized by the researchers to carry out the investigation. This comprises of seventy in-depth future energy system scenarios, which the researchers incorporated into a model to determine how they would affect employment in each state.
The team also found that, in general, the renewable energy industry employs a higher percentage of women meaning this transition will be good for gender equality. Efforts are currently being made to promote gender diversity and inclusion in the clean energy workforce. This could improve women’s status in states that rely heavily on fossil fuels, noted the authors, but unfortunately, not to the point where it would upend the gender status quo nationwide.
