Just 38% of Americans think Trump should pick Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s successor.

Most American adults think the winner of the November presidential election should pick a new justice to replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the U.S. Supreme Court, but fewer than a third support expanding the court’s size, according to a newSupreme Court building exterior.

Some 90% of Democrats and 61% of independent voters said the winner of the election should pick Ginsburg’s successor, whereas 80% of Republicans want Trump to fill the seat.also found that most Americans want the 2020 election winner to select her replacement. Just 32% of adults support increasing the number of Supreme Court justices, a practice referred to as “court-packing” that some Democrats have threatened to attempt as retaliation if the Republicans quickly push through a replacement for Ginsburg, including 45% of Democrats and 29% of independents, the ABC/Post poll found.

Among Joe Biden’s supporters, 64% believe the Supreme Court vacancy makes it more important that Joe Biden win, whereas only 37% of Trump supporters felt the same about their candidate.
