Here's what women in Ukraine had to say about what’s happening on the ground and how we can support them and those most affected by the war.
Anna Bilenka is a Ukrainian woman who lives and works in the Netherlands as a marketing content manager. Her family remains in Ukraine, hiding and surviving in one of the cities most hard-hit by the war.
When asked to put a face to the conflict, her response captures a full range of emotions from tragedy to resilience: “It looks like a young woman who uses all her skills, power and energy to help her country. She doesn't rest at all, and she doesn't complain or cry — she doesn't have time. She might help at the hospital, volunteer at the border, coordinate and communicate with refugees or take care of kids, animals or elderly people. She might be a journalist, baker or therapist.
“I also invite you to help spread the word and leverage your network to speak up and share accurate news and attract more financial support to those women and children who are in need,” she adds. “Speak up and encourage the truth about the war and the suffering of people — in particular women who are giving birth to children in the basements, being separated from their husbands or protecting the country on the frontline,” she says.
