The historic building had been marked for demolition back in 2011
The newly restored former Ancoats Hospital has been transformed into apartments and officially opened. The building, which had stood derelict in Ancoats for more than 30 years, came close to being demolished in 2011.
Much of the interior had deteriorated to such an extent that it was deemed not saveable. The stone was recovered during the redevelopment of the building and will now take pride of place at the entrance to the Dispensary. Another feature of the original building that has been painstakingly restored is the clock tower. At the official opening, guests also had the opportunity to look inside the completed building and meet with tenants who had recently moved into their new homes. The developers also released a set of images to the Manchester Evening News revealing the new interior of the building, including examples of some of the flats inside.
