Ohtani announces on Instagram he will play in the World Baseball Classic, with the first games March 9-13 in Tokyo
As expected, Shohei Ohtani is set to play for Japan in the World Baseball Classic.on Thursday morning, confirming his participation in the event he has talked about since the middle of last season.
Angels general manager Perry Minasian has said repeatedly he has no issue with Ohtani playing in the WBC, and he is comfortable with the two-way player participating in whatever roles he feels he can handle. “I think it’s great for baseball,” Minasian said last week of the WBC. “I really do. I think it’s an outstanding event and I’d be the last person that says, ‘Hey, I don’t think you should play.’ I think it’s great. I think it’s a celebration of our game worldwide. I hope fans get a chance to see a lot of great players not only from the U.S., but from all over the world and appreciate how great this game is. So he’s got the green light to do what he wants.
