The council is looking ti get more people trained on naloxone injections which can counter a drug overdose, after figures showed 20 local people lost their lives to drugs last year.
West Dunbartonshire Council’s depute leader has described the number of drug-related deaths over the past five years “heart-breaking” as the local authority pushes naloxone training within communities.
Leven Councillor Michelle McGinty, said: “It is heart-breaking that almost 130 people in West Dunbartonshire have lost their lives because of drugs in the last five years. That is far too many families who have suffered the devastation of being told that they have lost a partner, parent, child, grandchild or loved one.
In August last year West Dunbartonshire launched its new Drug Harm Reduction Mobile Unit with a mission to take support into the heart of communities where losses have occurred.
