The League champions were seven points adrift at half-time, but rallied to secure top spot in Group 4 and set up a quarter-final meeting with Dunloy
St Brigid’s confirmed their place in the last eight with a third successive win in Group 4, but they made hard work of things against a gusty Aghagallon side at Corrigan Park on Sunday evening.
However, a stunning turnaround and a rally of six unanswered points in the third quarter saw the South Belfast side wrestle control of proceedings. They kicked on and were 1-5 to 0-2 ahead by the 20-minute mark with Walsh and Hannon on target while James Smith landed an excellent long-range point for St Brigid’s.
With Niall Duffy and Enda Downey introduced just before half-time, St Brigid’s made the perfect start to the second half as Paddy Finnegan split the posts 50 seconds after the restart. However, the momentum remained with St Brigid’s with former Antrim panellist Jack Dowling bossing the midfield while Smith and McNicholl proved a handful up front.
Enda Downey made a great block to deny Gareth Magee in stoppage time while Hannon’s late delivery resulted in a goal-mouth scramble, but Aghagallon couldn’t plunder a second major.
