Rep AOC created her own TikTok account in an effort to speak out against the bipartisan effort to ban the social media platform in the United States.

The Congresswoman's argument comes as Congress debates whether the U.S. should ban TikTok entirely due to its ties to China. Ocasio-Cortez argued in her video that banning the social media app in the U.S. does not address"the core of the issue," which is that social media companies are allowed to collect personal data from users without any"significant regulation whatsoever.

Ocasio-Cortez argued that the right thing to do is not to"ban an individual company" but to instead protect U.S. residents from"this kind of egregious data harvesting" used by companies. A number of states have already banned TikTok across all government devices, with Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota being the first to do so. Other states, including Virginia, Texas, and Ohio have followed suit, according to Yahoo Finance.Ocasio-Cortez's TikTok video comes only days before the social media app is banned on all federal devices on March 29. The White House gave 30 days to all U.S. federal agencies on Feb.
