The federal judge overseeing the tumultuous case of former national security adviser Michael Flynn has until May 31 to explain his rationale for declining to immediately dismiss the case against Flynn after the Justice Department moved to drop the matter.
Flynn's guilty plea came in late 2017, and he agreed to cooperate with federal investigators probing Trump campaign contacts with Russians in 2016. Sullivan appeared poised to sentence Flynn to jail time in late 2018, despite prosecutors' initial request for leniency but gave Flynn a chance to complete his cooperation with the government before submitting to sentencing.
