Apple’s next AirPods are due to launch this Fall and it’s predicted will introduce a major design change
This is a return to form for AirPods which were originally announced alongside the iPhone 7 in September 2016, going on sale in December that year.
But the second-generation AirPods, which looked identical, had a much quieter launch in March 2019. And the unveiling of AirPods Pro took place by press release, and simultaneous behind-closed-doors event at the end of 2019., corroborates the release of the AirPods 3 being with the next iPhone range. Gurman also says the earbuds will have the biggest change yet to how the earbuds look since their 2016 original release.
AirPods 3, as they won’t be officially called, will look different because the entry-level earbuds will be redesigned to look much more AirPods Pro, their pricier sibling. This is what we’ve heard from other sources already, but the fact Gurman seems to concur is significant.
