On Tuesday, March 8, Apple will reveal its next products including, we think, a new iPhone SE. Here’s why it will be worth it.
Even more strikingly, the recent tweet from Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that the iPhone SE will include mmWave 5G, that faster but shorter-range variant. To have that in an affordable phone is mind-blowing, and will mean it likely won’t look quite identical after all.
Oh, and please note that the addition of 5G will put this phone ahead of the iPhone 11 which is still currently in the range, and costs more. But we’ll get to the price in a minute. It looks like the next iPhone SE will have the very latest Apple silicon as its brain. So, the similarities to the 2020 iPhone SE and this new one will be purely skin deep.
Of course, it’s possible that the iPhone SE 2022 might not have this processor in it, but I bet it will. And Ming-Chi Kuo’s latest tweet says so, too.The presence of Touch ID on the front means that the display on the current iPhone SE is just 4.7 inches. That’s smaller than the screen real estate on the iPhone 13 mini with its 5.4-inch screen.
Of course, the mini is better. It has Face ID, an OLED screen, Ceramic Shield, snappy design and two cameras. Plus, of course, the A15 Bionic which is way faster than the SE’s A13 Bionic chip. Kuo has not commented directly on the price but has pointed out that along with the 64GB and 128GB storage levels, there may be a 256GB model, too. Which would doubtless still be cheaper than the entry-level iPhone 13 mini.AppleAlthough the iPhone SE design only has one camera, and this is likely to be repeated on the new model, Apple will doubtless upgrade the photographic capabilities.
It is likely to include the U1 Ultra Wideband chip that was missing from the last SE, so that it offers a better Find My experience. Right now, the iPhone SE is the only iPhone in the current range that doesn’t have the U1 chip: expect this to be remedied.
