For the first time in more than 20 years, the Arizona Diamondbacks are headed to the World Series. Arizona beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia in Game 7 to win their trip to the premier event in Major League Baseball. The Diamondbacks will face the Texas Rangers, who on Monday beat the Houston Astros to win the American League pennant and seal their entry into the World Series. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday at 8 p.m. ET in Arlington, Texas.
Phillies starting pitcher Ranger Suárez had six hits against him and three runs, and had six strikeouts over four innings. A Carroll sacrifice fly against pitcher Jose Alvarado in the 7th inning put Arizona up 4-2. The last time the Diamondbacks were in the World Series was in 2001, when they beat the New York Yankees. That World Series win was just three years after they debuted as an expansion team in 1998.
