Churchill Downs officials have settled a dispute with suburban school districts over the property tax bill at Arlington Park.
After an agreement between Churchill Downs Inc., the Cook County Board of Review and several suburban school districts, the property tax bill for Arlington Park this year was reduced to $7.8 million.
The reduction is only good for the tax bill due this year and owed by Churchill Downs, said Samantha Steele, the District 2 Board of Review commissioner. Churchill Downs officials had sought to have the property valued at $37.5 million, which would have dropped the tax bill to about $3 million.by signing up you agree to our terms of service When the Bears receive a tax bill for the property next year, it once again will be valued at $197 million, county officials said. That's unless a deal can be struck beforehand.
Officials from three school districts that receive property tax revenue from the 326-acre site -- Palatine Township Elementary School District 15, Northwest Suburban High School District 214 and Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 -- have suggested maintaining the value at $95 million until it's reassessed in 2025.
