An Arlington Police Department recruit officer died Sunday after seemingly falling ill during a training exercise late last week.
Marquis Kennedy, who began his law enforcement training in late July, was participating in defensive tactics training on Friday when “he indicated to training staff that he was not feeling well,” according to an Arlington Police Department news release. He was taken out of the exercise, and he was sitting with a member of the training staff who was monitoring him when he collapsed “a short time later,” the release said.Arlington Police Department recruit officer Marquis Kennedy died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, after collapsing during a training exercise.“Our hearts are broken,” police Chief Al Jones said. “Recruit Kennedy had a bright and promising future as a police officer.
“We’re constantly reviewing and updating our training methods — and if we determine any training needs to be updated, we will make those changes,” Ciesco said..
