Mikel Arteta says Gabriel Martinelli has been dropped because Leandro Trossard ‘deserves’ his chance AFC
After losing 3-1 at home to title rivals Manchester City on Wednesday, the Arsenal boss made two changes for their trip to Villa Park, with Ben White coming in for Takehiro Tomiyasu and Trossard coming in for Martinelli.
And prior to the game, Arteta revealed the reasons behind why he decided to drop the winger that’s scored seven goals and recorded three assists in 30 appearances for them this season.“It’s to give Leandro the chance that he deserves in the starting XI,” the Gunners boss told BT Sport. “He’s been impacting the team every time he’s be on the field and we needed some changes and some energy in the front line.”
Since signing for Arsenal from Brighton in January, Trossard has come off the bench four times for the Gunners in the Premier League, scoring once when he came on in the eventual 1-1 draw against Brentford. But his statistics don’t reflect the impact the Belgian has had as a substitute, boosting the Gunners’ attack each time he’s come on.Qatari £4.
