Seven valuable art pieces plundered by the Nazis more than 80 years ago are being returned to the heirs of a cabaret performer, who was killed during the Holocaust and whose massive art collection was stolen by the Third Reich.

Works of art by Austrian expressionist artist Egon Schiele are on display at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023, during a ceremony returning the pieces to the heirs of Fritz Grünbaum, a well-known cabaret performer who was arrested in 1938 and later died in the Dachau concentration camp. 20, 2023, the art plundered by the Nazis was returned to the heirs of Fritz Grünbaum, a well-known cabaret performer who was arrested in 1938 and later died in the Dachau concentration camp. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office secured the return of the artworks from prominent museums earlier this year, including one piece from the Museum of Modern Art. Combined, the pieces are valued at more than $9.5 million.
