Shoppers who were turning up today were being told the supermarket had been closed because of damage caused in yesterday's storms
Nearby Costco was also hit by flooding yesterday. Footage showed rain pouring through the roof as shoppers tried to dodge the water.Today staff at Asda in Trafford Park were telling arriving customers the store was closed until further notice because of yesterday's storm. Shopping trolleys were placed across the entrance to prevent shoppers entering.
A spokesperson for Asda said: "Following extreme weather experienced in the local area, our Trafford Park store remains closed whilst we carry out essential repairs. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we are working hard to reopen the store as soon as possible." Shoppers at B&M in Burnage experienced a similar problem when more footage captured rainwater falling onto the tills as customers watched.
Elsewhere across the region, a large tree also fell through a house in Eccles, planes were unable to land at Manchester Airport and thousands of Manchester City fans were left drenched during the Treble parade. The heavy rainfall, which caused flooding on numerous roads in Salford and Altrincham prompting drivers to wade through the water, also resulted in train delays across the region, with passengers at Manchester Piccadilly station describing 'chaos'.
In Urmston, a man was even seen sailing down Bent Lane in a small kayak, beside the Manchester Ship Canal, after the residential road became flooded.
