Ash is finally a Pokémon Champion, but it took him decades, which is way longer than it could have taken him if he didn't travel across the land.
While Ash has finally completed his decades-long mission to become the best Pokémon trainer on the planet by earning the title of World Champion, one episode of the original anime proves that he could have accomplished that goal much sooner if he didn’t travel across the land.
Ash’s journey to become a master Pokémon trainer is legendary. Starting when he was just ten years old, Ash took on the responsibility of having a Pikachu as his starter Pokémon, despite the fact that Pikachu are much more difficult to handle than the other three starters. Then, Ash took off into the world, looking for wild Pokémon to catch and train before trying his hand at challenging gym leaders.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Ash Could Have Become a Pokémon Champion by Going to School In Pokémon: Indigo League episode 9 , Ash, Pikachu, Misty, and Brock are traveling to Vermillion City for Ash to challenge the next gym leader and earn more badges. However, they are interrupted after they come across a school where a smaller student is being bullied by some of the older kids.
If Ash went to Pokémon Tech, he wouldn’t have needed to travel across the world, challenging dangerous wild Pokémon and encountering even more dangerous villains, like Team Rocket, who wouldn’t think twice about putting a ten year old in harm’s way to get what they want.
Basically, no matter how expensive Pokémon Tech may have been , Joe proves that it is possible Ash could have attended as well, even if it wasn’t probable or practical.
