Exclusive: UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall speaks to the Manchester Evening News ahead of his return to the octagon next weekend.
As the razzmatazz of the UFC prepares to roll into Manchester later this month, interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is keen to settle a score once and for all.
Aspinall lasted all of 15 seconds at the O2 Arena as he tore his medial collateral ligament when looking to engage with Blaydes and, as a result, had to forfeit the contest on medical terms. "I would like to fight in Manchester again but I imagine that it’s on to superstardom after this one - so they will want me Stateside."
"You know what, I’ve fought in all different time zones across the world and when you’re fighting, you’re fighting," adds the 31-year-old. "Usually I fight at about midnight. If you can fight at midnight but not four hours later, you’re not that good in the first place. "This camp has been way better and I’m happy about the fact I’ve had a full training camp, I’m healthy, my body is in a good spot and I’ve done loads of sparring. I’m ready to go.
Thirty-six-year-old Jones is widely regarded as one of the best fighters of all time and is the current heavyweight champion, though he has not fought since March 2023 due to tearing a pectoral tendon off the bone while training for a fight against Stipe Miocic before UFC 295.
