TAMPA, Fla. — Yordan Alvarez was sent back to Houston to have his neck examined after experiencing discomfort for about a week.
Astros manager Dusty Baker said the team is hopeful the slugger won't need to spend time on the injured list.."We hope not. Just have to see after he sees the doctor." Baker didn't even rule out the possibility of Alvarez returning to the team before the series concludes Wednesday. The Astros are off Thursday before a six-game homestand against the Phillies and Giants begins Friday.If Alvarez has to go on the injured list, he could be replaced by outfielder Chas McCormick, who is eligible to come off the injured list Tuesday, although Baker said it was. The club doesn't have any other outfielders available on the 40-man roster.
