Overnight, anyone who turned on their TV saw horrific images of violence across the country: Protestors in Brooklyn being so brutally thrown to the street by police that they had to be hospitalized, dozens of businesses in Minneapolis being burned to the ground, protestors in Dallas being tear-gassed to the point of choking, highway entrances in Los Angeles being blocked by protestors and random cars being pelted by rocks, police in Louisville taking direct aim at camera crews and, the CNN...
Lance Bottoms also directly condemned the vandalization of the CNN headquarters, pointing out that earlier that day, a black man, CNN correspondent Omar Jimenez,. "There was a black reporter who was arrested on camera this morning, who works for CNN. They are telling our stories, and you are disgracing their building," she said. "We are no longer talking about the murder of an innocent man.
And he referenced the pain of seeing that video played over and over again — "we watch it like murder porn over" — and added, " So that is why children are burning it to the ground. They don't know what else to do." Seeming to speak directly to the protestors, occasionally, he said, "And I know that tore your heart out. I know it's crippling. And I have nothing positive to say." But he quickly turned to the point of his appearance: To try to stop the violence in his city. "I am duty-bound to be here to simply say: That it is your duty not to burn your own house down for anger with an enemy," Mike said.
