A nice gesture by Auburn
Fan’s spot in the press box was adorned with a bouquet of flowers wrapped in gold and blue ribbons -- San Jose State’s colors.
Fan spent 42 years working in SJSU’s athletics department, accepting a position as sports information director in 1980. Fan was described as “a champion in representing San Jose State to local, state and national media,” and was well-known for putting Spartans student-athletes before himself during his time as SID.
Last season, Fan worked his 500th consecutive San Jose State football game, which was one of his greatest achievements, and one that he was pleased to tout. According to San Jose State’s media guide, which includes a page dedicated to Fan, the longtime SID is remembered as “a great mentor to those who worked in the sports information/media relations/strategic communications industry. He never forgot a face or a fact and treated everyone the same, whether you were the star guard on the basketball team, a walk-on on the women’s water polo team, a national media member or a student reporter in your first semester.
