Aurora’s African American Heritage Advisory Board will host a pageant to name two high school students as “Mr. and Miss Black Aurora.”

After seeing several collegiate pageants held at historically Black colleges and universities and other universities, members of the Aurora board said they wanted to create a platform to highlight emerging leaders as they compete for the two titles.The inaugural pageant will take place at noon on Feb. 4, 2023 at the Copley Theatre with 10 total contests competing.
To participate, applicants must reside in Aurora, be a current high school student and be of African American heritage or descent, officials said.During the competition, officials said the contestants will learn public speaking, and branding and leadership skills, while building their confidence. Contestants will compete by participating in an on-stage interview, showing a talent and presenting fashion.aurora-il.
The two students who win will receive a $300 cash prize. Three people who are not associated with the city of Aurora will serve as judges during the pageant. After the pageant, the winners will be introduced to the community during the African American Heritage Board’s Annual Dinner Feb. 24, 2023.
