More than 500 girls from Central Ohio schools took part in the Girl's Tech Day event hosted by Amazon Web Services at COSI. "Representation matters, you will be what you see," said LaDavia Drane, the director of global inclusion and equity at Amazon Web Services.Hundreds of young, female students from Hilliard, Olentangy, Dublin, Johnathan Alder and Columbus City Schools took part in the event which focused on inspiring young girls to get involved in and learn more about STEM.

Along with AWS and Amazon's expansions in Central Ohio, other major tech companies like Intel, Google and Facebook have made significant investments in the region."There are so many opportunities for young students in Ohio right now," Hilliard City Schools Chief Technology Officer Rich Boettner said. "It’s so important for us to prepare our kids to be ready for the jobs of the future and get excited about those areas.

"I really like tech and science and arts and crafts," Jones said. "I also really like inventions. When my dad fixes things in our house, I sometimes sit next to him and watch how it does it." Drane said meeting young, intelligent girls like Dutt and Jones reminded her of how important AWS's work is in the Central Ohio region."It reminds me of why I do this work," Drane said. "They are right at that age, where they can make a decision about who they want to be when they grow up and they should know that the sky is the limit. A lot of times girls aren’t taught that STEM is a field they can go in. We are here to tell them it is.
