The club were able to pay tribute to four familiar names on the list.
Steve Clarke's provisional squad of 26 names for the Euros was named yesterday - and bosses at Ayr United were entitled to feel a little pride with no fewer than four of the Scotland party having previous links to Somerset Park.
Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie and Scott McKenna all spent spells in the black and white - while teenage sensation Ben Doak was in Ayr's youth academy before hitting the big time. Shankland was prolific in his time with Ayr - firing an incredible 63 goals in 74 games as he spearheaded Ian McCall's League One winners before leading a charge up the Championship. McCrorie and McKenna also enjoyed loan spells under McCall before going on to success at higher levels.
United's current managing director, Graeme Mathie, hailed the achievement of yesterday's announcement, telling the Ayrshire Post: "It’s a brilliant story for our club to have four former players involved in the provisional Euros squad.
"Be it Lawrence who signed permanently, Ross and Scott who came on loan or Ben who was with the academy at a young age - we are delighted that Ayr United played some part in their journey to this stage, and wish them every success in the tournament.”
