Rowan Matheson was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on May 24 after her parents, Laura Brown and Chris Matheson, spotted a strange purple rash on her calf.
A one-year-old girl from Renfrewshire is battling a rare form of cancer after her parents found a purple-coloured rash on her calf.
Later, Rowan's parents discovered a purple rash on their daughter's calf, not long after a rash on her abdomen disappeared.. Medical professionals thought it could be meningitis, but tests revealed it was something a lot worse. Now the little girl faces a long road ahead as part of a new trial which lasts until the summer of 2025.
The 28-year-old mum and her partner were left stunned when tests showed that their daughter's white blood cell count was 160. The average is between five and 15. Doctors also told the pair that Rowan's bone marrow was 89 per cent cancerous. After the devastating news was delivered everything changed.
Her loving mum explained: "Rowan had a rough start. Her treatment started with an induction period which lasts 29 days. "We wanted her to be home but it was still terrifying. She had a line in her arm that we had to be careful with to make sure it didn't snap. Rowan was also very sick with the tube feeds."
"But once you go up to the daycare ward you meet other families who soon become friends. We are going through a horrible time but meeting lovely people. It is important to talk to people about what you are going through."
