Based on Rumaan Alam’s 2020 novel of the same name, this upcoming psychological thriller follows Clay and Amanda Sandford, a couple who embark on a long island vacation just before a mysterious apocalypse rears its head in the city.
Speaking to Vanity Fair ahead of the premiere of Leave The World Behind, writer, producer, and director Sam Esmail reveals that Obama was very helpful in developing the script of this apocalyptic thriller. He explains that with the former president being one of the most seasoned experts in crisis management, he was “able to ground me a little bit on how things might unfold in reality.
“In the original drafts of the script, I definitely pushed things a lot farther than they were in the film, and President Obama, having the experience he does have, was able to ground me a little bit on how things might unfold in reality. I am writing what I think is fiction, for the most part, I’m trying to keep it as true to life as possible, but I’m exaggerating and dramatizing.
Barack Obama’s Involvement In Movies Is Not Limited To Leave The World Behind Since stepping down as the United States President in January 2017, Obama has been involved in a number of endeavors, most notably branching out into film production. In 2018, along with his wife Michelle Obama, the 62-year-old launched a production company named Higher Ground Productions.
Outside the upcoming thriller Leave The World Behind, and the aforementioned documentaries, Obama has also worked on other shows and documentaries like We the People, The G Word With Adam Conover, and Our Great National Parks where he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Narrator. Obama’s track record with movies has been undoubtedly stellar so far and from all indications, Leave The World Behind, which is one of the most anticipated movies of fall 2023, shouldn’t be any different.
