Barry Ferguson was left disappointed with the performance of Jose Cifuentes against Real Betis - and the pundit reckons he has to move up the Rangers gears.
The Ecuadorian was told by boss Michael Beale it was his moment ahead of the 1-0 win in Europa League group stage action, amid injuries to midfielders Nico Raskin and Todd Cantwell. He was subbed after 80 minutes after finding himself on the bench for the weekend's 2-0 win at St Johnstone following duty for Ecuador in South America.
Despite the positive result for his former club, Ferguson insists the summer arrival from LAFC hasn't quite caught his eye yet. And the ex-Ibrox captain reckons while John Lundstram shone, Cifuentes struggled to deliver. He told Go Radio: "I thought he did really well. He had a couple of slack touches but apart from that I thought he was a driving force.
"John Lundstram in the middle of the park did exactly what I just mentioned there. I thought he was good. I thought Cifuentes struggled if I am being honest, I thought he struggled with the pace of the game. Is it the travel or whatever? "I still think we have yet to see the best of him. You want to see more, he got caught on the ball a few times and kind of drifted out of the game a bit. I still think there's a player in him, I have seen plenty enough of him, heard people speak about him. He's strong, powerful, he can handle the ball. But we have still not seen enough of him yet in a Rangers jersey."
