The Panthers mounted a six-run come back in Game 3 of the series to advance to the regional quarterfinals.
O’Connor’s Miguel Bustamente, pictured April 22, helped the Panthers overcome a 7-1 deficit in Game 3 of their area-round series against Weslaco with a sacrifice fly that led his team to an 8-7 victory. O'Connor won two games Saturday to secure its spot in the regional quarterfinals of the playoffs.O’Connor kept its season alive with a pair of comeback victories against Weslaco on Saturday afternoon at Northside Baseball Field Two.
“All week our theme has been overcoming adversity,” O’Connor head coach Weston Heiligman said. “We had to overcome rain-shortened practices this week, going down there to Weslaco is a four-hour trip, that’s tough. We have the mentality of we can overcome whatever is in front of us.” O’Connor erased the 1-0 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. A third run was scored in the bottom of the fourth inning. Those three runs were enough for Estrada to lift the Panthers to another game in the series with a 3-1 win. A walk to O’Connor right fielder Aaron Olivas after the third run scored in the bottom of the fourth inning was enough to chase Weslaco’s starter, Diego Castillo, from the game.
