Batman has intentionally made his vigilante persona as terrifying as possible, but one iconic Batman ally is far more horrifying than Batman is.
Batman is one of the most terrifying vigilantes in comics, he crafted his entire persona over being scary to criminals. But there's one Bat-Family member that is far more terrifying than Batman, and when Batman isn't enough to scare a villain, he calls in none other than Alfred Pennyworth to get the job done.

While everyone agrees that Batman is terrifying, this isn't usually true of characters like Robin.
Batman Can't Scare Hush, But Alfred Can When the villain Hush tries to buy a black market item under the identity of Bruce Wayne, he's intercepted and captured by Batman and Alfred. Batman, being interested in the same item, tries to get Hush to give up what and where the item is. Naturally, Hush, who has known Bruce since he was a child, isn't scared of Batman and refuses to give up the information.
Alfred Would Happily Maim Hush For Bruce Alfred Pennyworth's true terrifying potential was made explicitly clear in All-Star Batman #10 – by Scott Snyder, Rafael Albuquerque, Jordie Bellaire, and Steve Wands – when, after realizing he has nothing to personally threaten Hush with, the Dark Knight simply, gravely states that he'll have Alfred perform plastic surgery on Hush.
The truly horrifying part though is Alfred's inner monologue, which states that while Batman is bluffing, Alfred isn't. Alfred admits that if Batman wanted it, he would have no issue "crossing lines" for Bruce, brutally maiming or even killing Batman's enemies. Considering Alfred's military background, it's no surprise that he'd be willing to cross such lines. Batman has always held his family to the strict rules he lives by. No killing, no guns.
