Battlestar Galactica's finale is notoriously divisive, but the 2007-2008 WGA strike almost caused Ronald D. Moore to end the series much earlier.
The ending of Ronald D. Moore's Battlestar Galactica reboot was divisive, but it could have been far more frustrating for viewers. The BSG finale was criticized for overt theological themes and deus ex machina solution. The BSG finale's reveal that Battlestar Galactica's journey to "our" world was preordained angered viewers who believed that celestial intervention removed human agency from the overall story.
As the writers' strike was resolved in time for production to begin on the final 11 episodes, it's interesting to look at "Revelations" as a potential Battlestar Galactica finale. It resolved the rebel Cylon arc with the release of their hostages and the discovery of a Colonial radio signal that appeared to reveal the location of Earth. Entering a temporary alliance, the Colonial Fleet and the Cylons embarked on their new beginning.
Ending the show with "Revelations" would also have robbed Battlestar Galactica of one of the best stories of its final season - the attempted mutiny by Felix Gaeta . Gaeta's alliance with Tom Zarek against the Colonial/Cylon alliance was a brilliant way to flip the tensions for BSG's final episodes. Now that humans and Cylons were working together to find a new home, BSG revealed that the biggest enemies were those on both sides of the alliance who opposed peace.
