CriminalMinds: Evolution will add more swearing to the BAU’s vocabulary, giving the highly anticipated reboot on Paramount+ a “more authentic” tone.
Criminal Minds: Evolution will include more "inappropriate" language than the original series. Created by writer and producer Jeff Davis, Criminal Minds first debuted in 2005 on CBS. The procedural crime drama, which followed the agents of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, aired for fifteen seasons and finally concluded in 2020.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Led by showrunner Erica Messer, Criminal Minds: Evolution functions essentially as Criminal Minds season 16 and is expected to pick up with the BAU after the pandemic. Except for Matthew Gray Gubler's Dr. Spencer Reid and Daniel Henney's Matt Simmons, the core Criminal Minds cast members are returning for the reboot, hoping to recapture the success of the original series.
What To Expect From Criminal Minds Season 16 Adding coarse language to the BAU's vocabulary might seem like a small change, but it should create a notable difference in Criminal Mind: Evolution's tone. While Criminal Minds never shied away from depicting darker storylines and character arcs, the show often had to sanitize the character's responses to situations because of the restraints placed on broadcast shows.
Of course, swearing isn't the only change coming to Criminal Minds: Evolution. The new series will eschew the original's case-of-the-week format and instead focus on one UnSub throughout Criminal Minds: Evolution season 1's ten-episode run with a serialized structure, giving more time to explore the UnSub's psyche. In other words, many of the characters will be the same, but there will be a decidedly different feel to the show this time around.
