Texas ran out to a 16-9 lead over the game’s slow-paced opening 12 and a half minutes. Its run coincided with Baylor languishing on offense, scoreless for more than six minutes while missing 7 of 8 3-pointers to open. That helped the Longhorns, up 30-27 at the break, take one last halftime lead into the home locker room. They just had to hold it.The Bears’ guards kept fending off the Longhorns’ attempts to penetrate, turning every half-court possession into a constant search for some sliver of space. Even worse, Baylor found its outside strokeThe Longhorns could have spiraled there, much like they did during a 17-point loss up in Waco a couple weeks ago.
Texas might have its March moment yet. But the closing minutes of this Feb. 28 game belonged to Baylor.
