A former BBC zoologist has been jailed for more than 10 years after admitting to 56 offences related to the torture and sexual exploitation of more than 42 animals

A BBC TV star, once respected in his field, has been unmasked as a depraved animal abuser and rapist.

During the sentencing, the judge forewarned those present in the courtroom of the disturbing nature of Britton's crimes, which included "grotesque cruelty toward animals." As the gruesome details were disclosed, including the deaths of 39 dogs, emotional reactions rippled through the public gallery. He had been running two Telegram accounts under the names 'Monster' and 'Cerberus' from 2020 to 2022, where he posted sickening videos of his actions. In one such video, an eagle-eyed internet user spotted that the adult female dog was wearing an orange City of Darwin leash with the slogan: "Great pets start with you."

Britton referred to the container as his "torture room" and distributed the recordings of his appalling crimes from there using aliases. In an alarming turn of events, it's been revealed that Britton openly acknowledged a disturbing interest in "zoo sadism". Shocking messages disclosed in the Northern Territory Supreme Court showed him instructing others on committing similar abusive acts.
