Former Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford believes his old side were 'thrown off' by Southampton's game plan as the Whites suffered a 3-1 defeat at St Mary's. A second-minute goal from Adam Armstrong set the tone, with the hosts 3-0 up at the break on an afternoon where Daniel Farke's side were barely able to lay a glove on their opponents.
Speaking after he saw his former side defeated, Beckford admitted that Saints boss Russell Martin had delivered a game plan that Leeds could not cope with."I think Southampton's game plan completely threw Leeds United off," Beckford said on Sky Sports. "It was very frustrating, they just didn't seem to get in the groove of things at all.
"They didn't keep the ball at the back as I expected them to do. They changed their game plan very, very quickly and very cleverly.
