Pendle Council is involved with various government-backed schemes and also joint ventures with private firms

Parks and community gardens, art exhibitions, architecture, music and youth projects are part of wider regeneration activities in Pendle, many linked to the Nelson Town Deal or Levelling-Up schemes.

At the Nelson Town Deal Board meeting, Kerenza McClarnan and Calum Bayne, both from In-Situ, spoke about recent or current projects including This is Nelson, which is part of the Nelson Town Deal. She said half the people who attended events come from the area’s most-deprived areas, with 41 per cent Asian people and 59 per cent white. Twenty-eight per cent describe themselves as disabled.

“A textile exhibition was held in the upper floor of the old Methodist Sunday school building in Nelson, once the 3B Technology Centre. Over 500 people came. We had the head of the Arts Council England there and other strategic people, who saw that space.”
