, Pro means a significant increase in performance. A new 997cc v-twin now produces 225hp, up from 180hp before, meaning there’s 1.28hp for every kilogram of bike. Aston Martin says this is comparable to an F1 car, and puts the Pro into ‘hyperbike’ territory. The engine also benefits from a crankcase machined from sold billet aluminium, a production bike first which improves construction stiffness.
The Pro is very much intended to be enjoyed on circuit, too, with increased downforce thanks to the new front end as well as a more aerodynamic fin. Marek Reichmann added: “There is no separation between the advanced materials, design and technical capabilities of the bike… The rider is part of this moving sculpture and will literally feel as though they are part of the track when laying atop the AMB 001 Pro”.
As if to prove the bike’s extreme nature, and further link this AMB 001 Pro to its Valkyrie namesake, the badges use Aston’s ‘lacewing’ technology. It’s chemical etched aluminium that’s 99.4 per cent lighter than the standard enamel and 30 per cent thinner than human hair. So no trendy biker beard when you ride this, presumably.
Those that think the Pro looks out-of-this-world brilliant in Verdant Jade with Photon Lime accents and satin carbon fibre are in luck, as that’s the only spec that’s going to be available. Aston chose it as a nod to their successful four-wheeled racers, and it seems an inspired choice - not least because it differentiates this 001 from the original, with its hand stitched tan leather and more laid-back vibe.
The AMB 001 Pro has been revealed at the EICMA bike show in Milan alongside a Valkyrie equivalent. Though only a prototype for the moment, it’s surely not going to change a great deal between now and first deliveries this time next year. Doesn’t matter, anyway, as Aston says some of the 88-unit production run - to be hand assembled at Brough Superior’s Toulouse factory - are already spoken for. Those that want one of the rest best move fast.
