Protesters in Lebanon prepared for mass demonstrations against a government they hold responsible for the deadly explosion in Beirut
BEIRUT—Protesters in Lebanon prepared for mass demonstrations on Saturday against a government they hold responsible for the deadly explosion in Beirut, seeking to reignite a movement that last year toppled the prime minister but failed to remove an entrenched political elite.
“The explosion from Tuesday was the last straw,” one call for protests circulated on social media said, in English. “It is time to hang the nooses and get accountability for our corrupt ruling classes.”
