James McGivern fights Rashid Omar for the BUI Celtic lightweight title on Friday night at the SSE Arena
James McGivern says he nearly quit boxing after suffering so many set-backs and disappointments in boxing.
McGivern weighed in on Thursday for his BUI Celtic lightweight title scrap with Rashid Omar, and 'The Natural' insists he is finally "ready for lift-off". "There will be a massive audience on this show. And if I go out and perform the way I know I can, then people will be saying 'where the f*** has this guy been?'.
"But look at Anto Cacace and everything that happened in his career. And now he is a world champion. That keeps you trucking on. He made the move into the pro ranks in 2020, but the transition was far from smooth for the former St George's ABC fighter."You are signing to fight one guy, and paying for coaches and training camps and everything else, and then the day before the fight it's cancelled and you get nothing.
