Construction on the train station in North Belfast began in November 2022
Construction work is ongoing at a redeveloped train station in North Belfast with plans for the site to be operational by next month.
On a site visit to the new station, Translink CEO Chris Conway told Belfast Live he hopes the station can spark wider regeneration of the surrounding area, including improvements to the area's connection to the surrounding area. As for improvements to the area around the site itself, when questioned about the car park facilities, he said the focus will be on encouraging active travel, including cycling and taking the bus to the station as opposed to driving.
An operational opening for the station is expected for the end of April, with passengers able to use the station from then. The demolition of the old station will take place in May, and it's expected all public realm and landscaping works around the site will be completed by November. "We've been really pleased at how much people have engaged in that, people feel very passionately about North Belfast, but also about this feeling that things like public transport belong to them, and so people have really wanted to get involved.
