Ben Shephard has admitted on GMB that Piers Morgan's 'unmissable' interview with Rishi Sunak made the PM seem ‘more human’ than usual.
After hearing the politician speak about how he asked Murty to marry him at Half Moon Bay in the US, with the couple tying the knot in 2009, Good Morning Britain presenter Shephard admitted that he felt Sunak’s admission made him seem ‘more human’ than usual.
On Friday’s programme, Shephard and Kate Garraway were joined in the ITV studio by former Labour home secretary Jacqui Smith and former Conservative culture minister Lord Vaizey.Lord Vaizey recalled how Sunak’s interaction with Morgan went down during the interview, stating: ‘He asked him how he proposed to his wife, and I’ve never seen a more awkward exchange.
‘Classic Morgan, “Tell me, how did you propose to your wife.” Rishi Sunak, you can kind of see the thought bubble, “Why did I invite this bloke into my flat to ask me these incredibly annoying questions?”’ Shephard then piped up, stating: ‘I think the feeling there was that he seemed more human when he talked about that. At times he doesn’t feel or seem that human, and actually that felt a bit more human.’Lord Vaizey then added that Sunak often appears as though he’s trying to come across as ‘perfect’, what with him not drinking and working out every day.
‘I thought it was good for him when he looked incredibly pained and awkward,’ the political commentator added.
