Gestern Abend wurden in Berlin die 74. Internationalen Filmfestspiele eröffnet. Wir berichten, was auf dem roten Teppich geschieht. Die Berlinale 2024 ist eröffnet: Wir zeigen die schönsten Looks vom roten Teppich und berichten, was dort sonst noch passiert Die diesjährige Berlinale hatte schon vor ihrer Eröffnung einiges an politischer Brisanz.
Als herauskam, dass zur Eröffnungsgala auch AfD-Abgeordnete eingeladen waren, brach in der Branche und den Medien berechtigte Empörung aus. Die Berlinale kommunizierte daraufhin zunächst, sie wolle in persönlichen Briefen an diese Abgeordneten noch einmal klarmachen, dass Menschen, die antidemokratische Werte vertreten, beim Filmfestival nicht erwünscht seien. Kritiker:innen war das zu wenig, der Druck blieb, die Berlinale zog die Einladungen schließlich zurück. Dass nun der rote Teppich am Eröffnungsabend – wie in vergangenen Jahren – auch ein Ort für politischen Protest sein würde, war abzusehen – und ist gut so. So schritten gestern Abend rund 50 Branchenmitglieder, darunter Schauspieler:innen wie Katja Riemann, Jella Haase oder Pegah Ferydoni, händchenhaltend über den roten Teppich, bildeten mit ihren Handy-Taschenlampen ein Lichtermeer und sangen “Defend Democray”, also “Verteidigt die Demokratie”, während derselbe Satz auch auf dem großen Screen des Berlinale-Palastes angezeigt wurde. Schauspielerin Luisa Gaffron hatte sich außerdem die Namen der Opfer des rassistischen Anschlags von Hanau 2020 auf die Handinnenflächen geschrieben, um diesen zu gedenken und ein Zeichen gegen Rechtsextremismus zu setzen. Model und Unternehmer Papis Loveday trug ein Kleid mit großem Letterprint, der zu “Mehr Empathie” aufrief. Die Eröffnungsgala der Berlinale 2024 Drinnen wurde dann im Rahmen der Eröffnungsgala, moderiert von Hadnet Tesfai und Jo Schück, die Internationale Jury unter Vorsitz von Lupita Nyong'o vorgestellt. Nyong'o selbst, die scheidende Berlinale-Leitung aus Mariëtte Rissenbeek und Carlo Chatrian sowie Berlins Regierender Bürgermeister Kai Wegner und Claudia Roth, die Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien, eröffneten die Berlinale mit teils passionierten Reden. Als Eröffnungsfilm lief im Anschluss die Weltpremiere von “Small Things Like These” in Gegenwart von Regisseur Tim Mielants, den Produzent:innen Matt Damon, Alan Moloney, Catherine Magee und Drew Vinton sowie dem Schauspielteam aus Cillian Murphy, Eileen Walsh, Emily Watson und Zara Devlin.
