Biden has been racking up GOP endorsements in recent days, but he still faces some weakness on his left flank.
Senator Bernie Sanders and former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a Republican, are about as far from each other on the ideological spectrum as two people can get, but they both plan to use their DNC speeches Monday night to pitch Biden to non-Democrats, arguing that the stakes of the 2020 election go beyond ideology....
Kasich, who challenged Trump for the GOP nomination in 2016, states that his Republican identity “holds second place to my responsibility to my country” and that his appearance at the Democratic convention is a sign that “these are not normal times.” “There are areas where Joe and I absolutely disagree. But that’s OK because that’s America. Because whatever our differences, we respect one another as human beings,” Kasich declares.
Kasich lauds Biden’s “experience and his wisdom and his decency” and predicts that he can “bring us together,” while taking a not so subtle jab at Trump by arguing “we can do better than what we’ve been seeing today.”Biden has racked up several Republican endorsements, including from three former Cabinet members, six former members of Congress, former GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina and former Trump administration staffer Anthony Scaramucci.
