2022 celebrated a number of pioneering feats of space exploration, including a test mission to return humans to the moon, the Mars helicopter reaching new heights on the Red Planet and the Voyager probe celebrating its 45th year in space as the stalwart spacecraft continues to report back to Earth after exploring interstellar space.When it comes to documenting the cosmos, there's certainly no shortage of memorizing images to capture across the ever-expanding vacuum of space.
“Called the Cosmic Cliffs, Webb’s seemingly three-dimensional picture looks like craggy mountains on a moonlit evening,” NASA states. “In reality, it is the edge of the giant, gaseous cavity within NGC 3324, and the tallest peaks’ in this image are about 7 light-years high.
The spacecraft has been on the Red Planet since Nov. 26, 2018, to study the structure of the planet, its formation, tectonic activity and more. NASA"acquired" this image of Mars from the InSight lander on Dec. 5, according to the space agency.On April 24, Insight took what NASA dubbed the craft’s “final selfie.” In the shot, the space agency said the lander is “covered with far more dust than it was in its first selfie, taken in December 2018, not long after landing.
