The topic of President Joe Biden’s age has been a constant thorn in his side nearly the entire time he has been in office. Many consider the issue a serious concern, and judging by many of Biden’s mistakes, errors, gaffes, and odd actions, it is valid.
A recent poll shows that most of the country thinks Biden’s age will be an obstacle to his reelection.Rasmussen Reports found that “72% of likely U.S. voters believe Biden’s age is a serious problem in terms of his chances of winning reelection in 2024.” With nearly three out of every four voters feeling this way, it’s clearly a challenge to overcome for the 46th president. Moreover, of that total, it includes 46% of voters who think Biden’s age is a “very serious problem.
Biden is already the oldest president in the nation’s history. So, in many ways, it’s natural to think that ageism is to blame for voters feeling this way. However, it has more to do with Biden’s actions, malapropisms, and overall behavior combined with his advanced age than solely because he will be 81 years old in less than a month. He’s been on video mixing up names and facts, tripping, falling, and frequently just looking, well, unfortunately, like a confused old man.As expected, Republicans led the way, with 80% of GOP voters believing the president’s age is a detriment to his reelection chances, Rasmussen reported.
If anything, the age issue will arguably become more of an issue as time passes. If other problems, such as the economy or foreign policy, start to go south, Biden’s advanced age could be a catalyst for him losing further support with the country’s voters.
