President JoeBiden's thoughts 'solidy and squarely' with Queen Elizabeth, White House says
Buckingham Palace announced earlier that day that doctors were closely monitoring the queen's health at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The queen's deteriorating health, specifically a string of"episodic mobility problems," has prevented her from partaking in a number of events in recent months. She missed the State Opening of Parliament this past May for the first time in nearly 60 years.
"The president has been briefed, of course, this morning and will be updated throughout the day concerning news out of the United Kingdom," Kirby told reporters on a background call regarding the latest Ukrainian aid package from the United States."His and the first lady’s thoughts are solidly and squarely with the queen today and her family."
Biden spoke to new U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss during a conference call with Western leaders, Kirby added, and conveyed"that he and Dr. Biden are thinking very much about the queen and the family and the people of the United Kingdom." White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre echoed Kirby's comments at Thursday's press briefing but did not offer any new information.Prince Harry, his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, Prince William, and the majority of the British royal family are traveling to Balmoral Castle on Thursday. William's wife, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, will remain at Windsor Castle with the couple's children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
