He's the fourth major candidate to enter the race, joining incumbent Mayor Dave Bronson, former Anchorage Assembly Chair Suzanne LaFrance and former state Rep. Chris Tuck.
. Popp is also the former chair of Alaska Public Media’s Board of Directors. He left the board in August. “I have spent the past 16 years, advocating for Anchorage and have the connections to bring investment, new ideas, and a positive difference to our city,” he said in. “Anchorage is still a great city to live, work and play, however, it has become stagnant, and we need to Recapture Our Vision of who we are and what we can be, first to our own people, and then to the world.
Anchorage’s municipal elections are nonpartisan, so there are no party primaries. And as a local election, they are not conducted under the ranked-choice voting system used in state elections. To win the election outright, a candidate must capture at least 45% of the vote in April. Otherwise, the top two candidates will go on to a runoff election.
