Birmingham and El Camino Real will face off in the City Division I soccer finals.
Vargas added two more goals in the 42nd and 47th minute to put Birmingham up 4-0. Taft’s leading goal scorer Ryan Quinn recorded his 26th goal of the season roughly five minutes before time expired to prevent the shutout.
“The core of the team is sophomores,” Quinn said. “So seeing that, and then they’re going to mature into next year being a year older, having the training, watching us fight and play is just going to fire them up and really show them what they can do next year.” The two teams had met twice earlier in the season, with Birmingham winning the first match 6-0 and the second 10-1.
