Bamber Bridge bistro to become micro pub – but pledges famous food will survive the switch
A Bamber Bridge bistro is set to become a micro pub – but has pledged that the food for which it has become famous will survive the switch.
However, a quirk of the planning system led them to conclude that they would be better able to reduce the risk of any noise nuisance by approving the micro pub proposal than rejecting it.In their application to change the use of the building – which has an entrance on Station Road – the operator of the eatery argued that the proposed overhaul would help to “secure the financial viability of the business” in tough economic times.
A previous attempt to open a drinking establishment in the premises – which were occupied as a fishing tackle shop until 2017 – failed a year after that predecessor business closed down. At the time, a noise assessment accompanying the application was deemed inadequate and councillors feared that the proposal could have an adverse impact on those living nearby – a conclusion with which a planning inspector agreed when the matter went to appeal.
Noise mitigation measures required as part of the alcohol licence for the premises will now have to be proved to have been put in place for the purposes of the separate planning system. Committee member Will Adams said that he would “reluctantly” support the application for that reason – adding that he believed the proposal would impact upon those in the immediate vicinity of the establishment quite severely”.
