Ms Kweyama received regular and horrific racial abuse when she worked in a immigration detention centre in Heathrow
A BLACK nurse has won over £25,000 in compensation from the NHS after she was told to bleach her skin white so ‘patients will be nice’ to her.
At an employment tribunal, it was revealed that Ms Kweyama, who worked as an agency nurse, at a Heathrow immigration removal centre in 2019, was subjected to ‘loud racist chanting’.Ms Kweyama told the tribunal: “[The detainees] started calling me n****r, monkey, and started making monkey noises and dog noises, demanding to come in at the same time.”
The following month, she received more racial abuse from a detainee who was pretending he didn’t understand English. She told her agency that she could no longer continue working at Heathrow because she was ‘very depressed’ and needed time to ‘recover psychologically and emotionally’.
